Proud to be Bilingual and Bicultural

I am proud to be bilingual and bicultural. Bilingual means speaking two languages and bicultural means living or growing up in a place with more than one culture.

I am half Yupik and half Inupiaq. I am glad my father taught me Yup'ik because I am half Yup'ik and I want to know my language. My father's family is traditional and we all know our language.

I want to be a Yup'ik doctor who helps people and who understands them in either Yup'ik or English.

When I am older I want to be a doctor. I want to be a doctor because I wouldn't have a dad if doctors didn't operate on his heart. If I lived in only my Yup'ik culture my dad would be dead. This is the most important reason why I am happy to be bicultural.

Another reason why I am happy to be bicultural is because I wouldn't have a chance to have a job or money to buy clothing when I am older. I would be wearing warm fur gear in the summer.

Those are the reasons why I am proud to be bilingual and bicultural.
